A vacancy has arisen for the role of Laboratory Manager to oversee a team of analysts working in the Analytical Chemistry Quality Control Laboratory at a Pharmaceutical Oral Solid Dose manufacturing site. The main areas of work of the Analytical Laboratory include the routine quality control testing of starting materials and the finished products manufactured on site. Management of product stability studies in accordance with ICH guidelines, conducting analytical validation studies and the testing of swab samples to assist the Quality Assurance department with cleaning validation studies.

As a Laboratory Manager you will be:
* Managing a team of analysts working in a busy Quality Control Analytical Chemistry laboratory supporting an Oral Solid Dose Contract Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Organisation.
* Liaising with production and planning departments on a daily basis to agree testing schedules and communicating these to the analysts.
* Overseeing the Company Product Stability Program; ensuring analysis is conducted in a timely manner, tabulating of results and communicating these to customers.
* Checking of analytical data in accordance with current MHRA expectations on data integrity.
* Communicating with the external Microbiology Laboratory to ensure samples are tested within agreed time frames.
* Overseeing the introduction of new analytical methods into the analytical laboratory including staff training and mentoring.
* Evaluation and sentencing of Starting Materials for the production department.
* Conducting Out of Specification investigations, implementing corrective and preventative actions as required.
* Management of the company analytical method validation program.
* Trouble shooting of analytical instrumentation where difficulties are encountered during analysis.
* Ordering of laboratory consumables to ensure continuity of work within the laboratory.
* Writing of analytical methods, analytical method validation reports, product specifications and Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures in the company standard format.
* Conducting training of laboratory analysts and ensuring their training records are kept current.
* Liaison with specialist external companies to ensure the calibration of analytical equipment is completed in a timely manner.
* Contacting customers to discuss testing requirements.
* Contacting suppliers to obtain analytical methods as required.
* Monitoring the resource of the laboratory, identify and suggest areas of improvement, as required, to fulfil the workload of the laboratory.

To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will need to have the following requirements:
* Educated to degree level in a Science discipline.
* Experience of working as a Laboratory Management in a Pharmaceutical Quality Control environment, ideally in a laboratory supporting a manufacturing site.
* Sound understanding and practical experience of HPLC good knowledge of UV and IR Spectrophotometry, Thin Layer Chromatography and Wet Chemistry techniques.
* Knowledge and practical experience of the current MHRA expectations for Laboratory Data Integrity and the Handling of Out of Specification Results.


* Excellent communications skills are essential for liaising with piers in other areas of the company and when delegating tasks to the analysts within the laboratory
* Good organisation skills are required for organising both own workload and that of the analysts within the laboratory
* Able to manage a fast pace busy laboratory environment
* Attention to details is essential through all aspects of work.
