Head of Process Development - Cell & Gene Therapy -South West

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Head of Bioprocess Development join a cell & gene therapy company based in the South West of England. The organisation has a strong reputation for their technical and strategic expertise within the cell and gene therapy market across Europe. With the opening of their new state of the art laboratory facilities, and ongoing exciting projects with leading clients, it is an ideal time to be joining them.

As the Head of Process Development you will report directly to the Managing Director and you will lead the Cell and Gene Therapy Process Development Team- developing manufacturing processes and technology for clients' Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products. The successful candidate will manage a small team of bioprocess scientists and engineers and share technical knowledge with the rest of the organisation. A key focus will be growth of the business across both technology development and process development.

Key Duties:

*Delivery of multiple process and technology projects to help clients commercialise their cell and gene therapies.
*Ensure sufficient resources (people/equipment/materials) are available to deliver projects to agreed timelines and budgets.
*Manage, monitor and control: safety, quality, costs and budgets.
*Build, lead and grow an energetic and innovative team of technical specialists.
*Continuously improve project execution.
*Represent the Process Development team both internally and externally.
*Drive integration of the laboratory with the broader organisation.
*Assist with the identification of new business opportunities and contribute to proposals and winning new work.
*Assist the setting of sales targets and annual budgets.
*Foster a safe and enjoyable culture where all employees: work together to reach their
potential, communicate openly and work to the highest levels of quality and integrity.


*Respected individual with strong knowledge of the ATMP market, customers, technology
and regulations.
*PhD/MSc in life sciences or bio-engineering discipline with 10+years of industry
*Experience- within process development or cell/gene therapy technology development /engineering.
*Practical experience with all ATMP unit operations including: cell selection, adherent and
suspension cell culture, cell wash and harvest, downstream processing, formulation & filling
and analytical methods for cell and viral vector characterisation and quantification.
*Experience with technology transfer and developing processes and technology for GMP
manufacturing operations including closed processing, scale-up and scale-out.
*Experienced, hands-on, cost centre manager.
*Proven ability to build, lead and grow a team of technical specialists.
*Demonstrated ability to build strong client relationships and deliver successful projects.
*Enjoys delivering technical presentations.
