Description

HPC Systems Administrator
Sutton/ London

This is a great opportunity for an HPC Systems Admin to join a world-leading organisation within life sciences. You will support the operations and maintenance of the HPC systems and services, as well as assisting the end users of HPC and supporting other scientific computing services and projects when required.

Responsibilities Include:
*To assist senior staff managing & maintaining the HPC systems and Scientific Computing services, including:
oDay to day administration of the systems and services
oMonitoring and regular testing of the integrity of these systems and reporting any problems to line manager
oMonitoring the job schedulers and job queues
oTechnical support for HPC users
oContributing to design and implementation of service upgraders to meet changing research demand
oLeading service support for the Translational Genomics Laboratory (TGL) cluster and other clinical HPC resources
oIdentifying areas for, and implementing, continuous service improvement
*To provide input into design, systems integration and implementation activities, including:
oData throughput and workflows
oNetworking and file management systems
oHigh volume, high performance storage and data management strategies and systems
oCloud-based computing services
*To help deliver HPC services within defined Service Level Agreements, including:
oProblem Management
oMonitoring of a service availability, performance and health

Requirements Include:
*Using and supporting Unix / Linux servers
*Highly competent in a command line and shell environment
*Development of shell scripting plus Python, Perl or similar
*Use of DevOps methodology and remote management
*Supporting users in a technical/research environment
*Use of clusters, shared memory, cloud or other HPC systems
*Knowledge of basic networking and security concepts
*Management of clusters, shared memory, cloud or other HPC systems
*Use of job schedulers and associated HPC infrastructure software
*Experience of parallel file systems and HPC interconnects
*Experience of running small R&D projects
*Working within a server room/data centre environment
*Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
*Excellent analytical and investigative skills
*Excellent Team player
*Experience of computer problem resolution procedures and techniques
*Knowledge of current technology developments and trends
