Business Development Executive

Role Description

This is a role for an experienced business development or sales manager with international experience in the API supply chain, fine chemicals, bio-pharma or pharma sectors. This is a new role in the company, with all the work to date been undertaken by the CEO. The companies patented technology has elicited substantial interest in the market and now requires a dedicated professional to lead the commercial activities.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for identifying new potential markets and applications for the patented technology. Once target markets have been identified and prioritised, you will undertake the initial identification of prospective commercial partners in the vertical markets of interest to the Company and the management of all aspects of subsequent partner engagement. You will be expected to propose commercial models to the senior management team that meet the needs of the both the Company and the partner for approval and then actively participate / lead the negotiation to agree terms with the partner.

The role will require UK and international travel, as required, to meet with potential commercial partners and also as you will be expected to represent the company at trade shows and scientific symposia worldwide.

Working with the senior management team and R&D colleagues you will understand the commercial objectives of prospective partners and translate these into detailed application performance requirements for the patented technology which can form the basis for internal application development activities, joint development projects and subsequent licensing and/or OEM deal.

You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of target market databases to include the details of prospective partners and key market value metrics. Using these data, you will evaluate potential licensing partners and licencing terms. You will be expected to provide the CEO and senior management team with regular verbal and written progress reports.

Candidate profile

This is an exciting role for a resourceful, diligent, meticulous, ambitious and energetic sales / business development specialist who enjoys leading from the front and relishes the prospect of making a real and immediately visible impact on the success of this emerging bio-pharma company.

A candidate is likely to have at least 10 years commercial experience and must be able to demonstrate a successful track record in business development as evidenced by numerous successful (predominantly) out licensing deals in related market sectors. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate their account management experience and skills.

The ideal candidate will be able highly numerate and articulate, able to communicate confidently in both verbal and written form in a concise, factually correct and compelling manner.

The candidate must be resilient and self-reliant, at times happy to work on their own and on their own initiative whilst also thriving in a team environment and as a team player.
